JS goes into budget session tomorrow

The Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh will convene its budget session for the fiscal year 2022–2023 tomorrow. This will be the 18th session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.

 

Session Details

The session is set to commence at 5:00 PM in the Parliament Chamber at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. It has been convened by President Md Abdul Hamid under the authority granted to him by Clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution on 18 May.

The duration of the session will be finalised during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Parliament, to be chaired by Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, on the same day.

 

Budget Presentation

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is scheduled to present the national budget for FY2022–2023 (FY23) on 9 June. This marks the fourth budget to be presented by the current Finance Minister.

 

Annual Development Programme (ADP) Approved

On 17 May, the National Economic Council (NEC) approved a Taka 2,46,066.09 crore Annual Development Programme (ADP) for FY23. The transport and communication sector received the highest allocation. A key emphasis has been placed on ensuring the optimum utilisation of public funds by preventing misuse.

The NEC meeting was chaired virtually by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the Chairperson of the council, from her official residence, Ganabhaban.
