Ukraine’s Zelensky visits Kherson after Russian retreat: source
Earlier this week, when Russia withdrew its forces on Friday, the Ukrainian military invaded the city, which serves as the administrative hub for the Kherson region. Zelensky stated late on Sunday that evidence of hundreds of new “war crimes” committed by Russian occupiers was discovered by Ukrainian forces after they retook Kherson city.

After months of occupation, Ukrainians in the freed city expressed relief. Kherson was the first significant urban center to collapse after Russia’s invasion in February. With access to both the Black Sea in the west and the Sea of Azov in the east, its complete recapture provides Ukraine with a gateway to the entire Kherson region.
The territory was one of four that the Kremlin declared to be annexed and a part of Russia in September. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, swore to defend them from Ukrainian forces with all available measures.
