Russia announced on Monday that its forces had successfully downed 39 Ukrainian drones during the night, primarily targeting areas along the border with Ukraine.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the country’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 19 drones in the Kursk region, nine over Belgorod, three above Voronezh, and five in the Bryansk region, all of which are situated near the Ukrainian border. The ministry further stated that three additional drones were neutralised in the northwestern Leningrad region, near Saint Petersburg, in what it described as an “attempted terrorist attack.”

The statement was shared on Telegram by the Russian Defence Ministry, which also noted that Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian fuel depots, refineries, and energy infrastructure have become a frequent occurrence, particularly in the border areas.
In retaliation, Russia has consistently launched large-scale strikes on Ukrainian power plants, resulting in significant electricity shortages throughout Ukraine in recent months.

Supplementary Information:
Drone warfare has become an increasingly prominent aspect of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides targeting vital infrastructure. These attacks highlight the ongoing tensions in the region, which have led to considerable disruption in both countries’ economies. Ukraine’s continued attempts to disrupt Russia’s energy supplies have met with counterattacks aimed at crippling Ukraine’s power grid, exacerbating the humanitarian and logistical challenges faced by the Ukrainian population.
