Tea workers end strike as daily wage increased to Tk 145, Tea workers today withdrawal their demonstrations as their daily wage has been increased to Taka 145 from Taka 120 at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Tea workers end strike as daily wage increased to Tk 145

The workers ended the strike after 12 days following a meeting at Sreemangal Labour Office at 4pm here where they accepted the Prime Minister’s directive issued from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) this noon to increase their daily wage to Taka 145. According to the decision, they (the workers) will return to work from tomorrow.

Local lawmaker Principal Abdus Shahid, Director General of Labour Department Khaled Mamun Chowdhury, Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zakaria, and acting General Secretary of the Tea Workers Union Nripen Pal and Organizing Secretary Bijoy Hazra were present at the meeting, among others.

Workers of 231 tea estates across the country launched a movement on August 9 to press home their demand for a daily wage of Taka 300 while they started an indefinite strike from August 13.
