BNP wants to hold rally at Naya Paltan in fear of low turnout: Hasan
“From the very beginning, BNP knows that the number of people in their rally will not be more than 30,000 to 50,000. But, it is not appropriate to hold rally by blocking a busy road,” he said. “They are insisting on holding rally in the area which proves that they are in fear of low turnout. And it is easy to create chaos on the street. They want to hold the rally there for these two reasons,” the minister told reporters in front of his office at Secretariat in the capital.

Hasan, who is also the joint general secretary of the Awami League, claimed that the rally was being held in front of their Naya Palatan office with malign intent. Public hardships result from large rallies, he continued. He claimed that while the government could grant permission for a rally to take place, it could not do so for any rally intended to incite anarchy. Gwyn Lewis, the resident coordinator for the United Nations (UN), had previously paid the minister a courtesy visit at his office.
Hasan stated that Lewis paid a courtesy call here prior to the meeting. He continued, “She also invited me to a seminar on the role of the media in upholding human rights, which they organized in honor of World Human Rights Day. He claimed that discussions on a variety of other topics, such as media, COP-27, and environmental protection, were also held.
Lewis claimed that she visited the information minister in Bangladesh six months ago as a courtesy call. “The minister was also invited to a celebration of the World Human Rights Day. We also talked about the media, climate change, and the outcomes of the just-concluded COP-27 “Added she. Among those present at the meeting were Director of Public Relations for the Information and Broadcasting Ministry Mir Akram Uddin and Senior Human Rights Advisor for the Resident Coordinator Office Huma Khan.
