A heartwarming moment unfolded in the western Russian city of Pskov, as a local schoolgirl’s dream was brought to life by none other than Russian President Vladimir Putin. The young girl, Vika, had long wished for an Akita Inu puppy — a wish that was finally granted, bringing tears of joy and a heartfelt message of gratitude.
Putin Fulfils Russian Schoolgirl’s Longtime Dream with Akita Inu Puppy
A Dream in a Letter
According to a statement from the press service of the Pskov Region’s government, Vika had secretly written a letter to President Putin, expressing her lifelong dream of owning an Akita Inu. She kept this secret from her parents until the letter had already been sent.
“On this day, a schoolgirl received a present from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The country’s leader fulfilled the girl’s longtime dream of having her own pet dog. Vika had long been dreaming about having an Akita Inu puppy,” the statement read.

The Gift That Brought Tears
The President’s response came in the most delightful form — a live Akita Inu puppy was gifted to Vika. Upon seeing the puppy, she burst into tears of joy, overwhelmed by emotion.
The puppy has been named Umka.
“I’m very happy! Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, thank you for fulfilling my dream, thank you for this happiness. With all my heart, I congratulate you on your birthday and wish you good health, strength and patience,” said Vika.

A Dog, A Diplomatic Moment
President Putin is known to be a dog lover and has often appeared with his own dogs in public. One of his earlier dogs, a Labrador Retriever named Konni, once accompanied him to a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is known to be afraid of dogs.
Some media outlets suggested that the move may have been intended to intimidate her. However, in an interview with a German newspaper earlier this year, President Putin clarified the situation:
“When I learned that she does not like dogs, I apologised, of course.”
A Touching Gift on a Special Day
The gift was presented around President Putin’s birthday, adding another layer of emotion to the gesture — not only did he fulfil a child’s dream, but he also received heartfelt birthday wishes in return.
A Moment That Touched a Nation
Vika’s mother expressed her surprise and pride, sharing that her daughter had kept the entire plan secret until the letter had been sent. The story has since gone viral, with many admiring both the President’s thoughtful gesture and the young girl’s initiative.
A Gentle Reminder
In a world often dominated by political tension and global affairs, moments like these highlight the human side of leadership, and the power of a simple act of kindness to inspire, uplift, and unite.
