PM wants EU action to halt war between Russia and Ukraine: Today, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the leaders of the European Union (EU) to act to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war since it is harming the entire world.

She felt the urge after receiving a visit from a five-person EU team, led by YIva Johansson, the EU’s Commissioner for Home Affairs, at her workplace. After the meeting, Ihsanul Karim, the PM’s press secretary, informed the media.

Climate change and migration, particularly the Rohingya, were hot topics during the meeting. “The enormous number of forcibly displaced Rohingyas is a significant burden for Bangladesh and their number is increasing everyday with the birth of new babies,” the prime minister added. The chief of the EU mission, YIva Johansson, stated that her union would continue to support Bangladesh in regards to the Rohingya issue. She stated that 4.5 million Ukrainian refugees are now being hosted by the EU.

At the discussion, it was also discussed the perilous Mediterranean Sea migration of Bangladeshis. According to the prime minister, Bangladesh is making every effort to halt immigration. While claiming that lawful immigration could result in a win-win scenario and secure mutual gain.

The EU team was curious in Bangladesh’s response to the effects of climate change. Sheikh Hasina responded by saying that because Bangladesh has implemented a number of adaptation and mitigation programs with its own funding, the country is capable of managing any type of calamity.

The prime minister expressed her dissatisfaction, claiming that the wealthy nations—who are to blame for global warming—do not provide the promised financial assistance to the nations most vulnerable to climate change. She claimed that wealthy nations “don’t honor their pledges.”

The head of the EU mission greatly congratulated the prime minister for advancing Bangladesh’s development. She added that Bangladesh and the EU would commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties in 2019. The prime minister stated that her government places the highest importance on the empowerment of women. She remarked, “We have hired women in every industry, and they are doing well.”  She added that her country is making efforts to ensure grassroots development.

She continued,  “Our main goal is to make sure development up to the grassroots level.” Ambassador-at-Large of the PM Among those there were Mohammad Ziauddin, Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, the PM’s principal secretary, and Charles Whiteley, the EU ambassador.
