Bangladesh, Gulf Cooperation Council sign MoU for consultations. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between Bangladesh and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to hold regular consultations for cooperation in the areas of politics, economics, culture, people-to-people contacts, climate change, agriculture, food security, and environmental protection.

The agreement was signed on behalf of each side at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain by Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayem FALAH M. Al-Hajraf, according to a news release from the foreign ministry. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates make up the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a regional, intergovernmental, political, and economic union.

Dr. Nayem stated that the MoU would serve as the legal framework for cooperation between Bangladesh and the GCC through a joint action plan, joint working group and technical team, joint business council, and forums prior to signing it.

Dr. Momen emphasized that there are many opportunities for collaboration between Bangladesh and the GCC in the areas of skill development, food and energy security, climate change, crisis management, peacekeeping, afforestation, IT cooperation, and preferential or free trade agreements. Additionally, he gave the Secretary General an update on Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
