Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said the proposal has been suspended as a huge amount of money will be required to implement it. Considering the current economic scenario, he said, the decision of forming two new administrative Padma and Meghna-divisions have been held aiming to minimise expenditure.
The meeting also approved the proposal to transform Satkhira’s Shyamnagar upazila into a municipality, according to the cabinet secretary. He added that decisions had been made to move Islami University Thana, expand the boundaries of Nandail Municipality in Mymensigh, and demark the boundaries of the Bogura and Jamalpur districts.
