According to a news release, this was discussed today in the capital during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Singapore’s Transportation Minister and Minister in Charge of Trade Relations S. Iswaran.

On the occasion of the golden anniversary of the foundation of diplomatic ties between two friendly countries, the minister from Singa-pore is now in Bangladesh. The island nation in Southeast Asia is also interested in Bangladesh’s many high-skilled fields, such as digital connection and services, technology transfer, and looks forward to taking use of the opportunities to advance it.

The two Ministers exchanged opinions on crucial facets of the bilateral relations, praising the two nations’ strong and long-standing connections. Alam emphasized the need for increased investment in infrastructure development, especially seaports and airports, during the conference in order to assist Bangladesh’s transition into a regional connectivity and manufacturing hub.

Additionally, he highlighted Bangladesh’s high agricultural productivity and the potential for agro-based industries, placing particular emphasis on the growing middle-class population’s expanding purchasing power. Alam noted that Singa-pore might think about hiring more skilled workers from Bangladesh, particularly in the country’s health and other service industries.

He shared Bangladesh’s aspirations to become a facilitator of regional connectivity for the landlocked nations and regions of South Asia, mentioning Singa-pore as a hub for connectivity for the distribution of services as well as trade. The minister from Singapore praised Bangladesh’s ongoing economic expansion under the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s inspiring leadership.

He also valued the laborious Bangladeshi workers’ contributions to the country’s construction and other industries. The State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Md. Mahbub Ali, and the Singaporean minister previously met to discuss potential areas of cooperation for bolstering Bangladesh’s tourism industry.

 They exchanged views on the possible ‘greening’ of the new airports and civil aviation infrastructures by using renewable energy. Later in the day, S Iswaran held bilateral talks with the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and agreed to make further coordinated steps for enhanced and advanced cooperation and collaboration in the energy sector of Bangladesh through more Singa-porean investments.

In order to expedite talks for a free trade agreement between the two nations, the release stated that Singaporean minister S. Iswaran and Bangladeshi minister of commerce Tipu Munshi also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) at the commerce ministry
today.  Salman Fazlur Rahman, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s advisor on private business and investment, was also there.
