“As Bangla-desh graduates from Least Developed Country status and employs a huge women workforce in ready-made garments sector, much remains to be done for women to have leadership roles,” he said. “As we celebrate the 50 years of US-Bangladesh relations, we see Bangla-desh as a country with the huge potential and growth with a workforce that is young and increasingly well educated,” he said. The ambassador stated that since more than half of Bangladesh’s 165 million inhabitants are women, investments in women must be broad and diversified in order to bear fruit. AWE will provide knowledge, networks, and access to 50 Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs so they can start and grow successful businesses. Out of 1600 candidates, 50 women representing various racial groups, religious affiliations, and sexual orientations were chosen by the US embassy.

Haas anticipated that the participant would take advantage of the training chances to the fullest and open the door for many more women to pursue careers in business. The AWE program actively promotes women’s economic possibilities and makes sure that they have the skills and resources necessary to engage in the economy in accordance with the “US National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality.” Participants in AWE acquire fundamental business skills before meeting as a group to discuss the subject with knowledgeable implementers, local mentors, and U.S. Exchange Alumni.

The AWE uses local collaborations, public-private sponsors, and networks of U.S. Exchange Alumni to support the expansion of women-owned enterprises. According to a program evaluation conducted in 2021, 74 percent of women who successfully finish the AWE program do so globally, and 29 percent recruit more employees. The AWE program is generating income and creating jobs in women-led businesses and promoting local prosperity in more than 80 countries worldwide by providing women with the tools and confidence they need.
