Tourism ban on Bandarban’s 2 upazilas extended till Nov 20,  The travel ban to Rowangchhari and Ruma Upazilas of the Bandarban Hill District has been extended until November 20 due to an ongoing security campaign against terrorists and some unfortunate incidents. The tourism ban on Thanchi has also been lifted, according to a notification signed by Bandarban District Commissioner Yasmin Parveen Tibriji this evening. This follows the district’s Alikadam Upazila.

This resulted in the seventh extension of the period during which tourists were not allowed to enter Rowanchari and Ruma Upazilas. The letter also stated that visiting Rowangchhari, Ruma, Thanchi, and Alikadam in Bandarban is prohibited due to security concerns and to protect the general population.

Prior to this, travel by tourists was prohibited from October 17 through the night in Ruma and Rowanchari, as well as from October 23 through October 30 in Thanchi and Alikadam. Following the travel ban in these four Upazilas until November 8, the ban on Alikadam was lifted from November 9 to November 12. But from November 13 to November 20, the ban was extended in Rowanchari and Ruma Upazilas.

After the prohibition on tourist travel in Thanchi is lifted, the tourism ban in Rowanchari and Ruma will last for another four days starting on November 17 (tomorrow). On October 20, the anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained ten individuals from various parts of Bandarban and Rangamati, including seven members of the recent militant group Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and three Pahari Separatist Organization agents. They turned over a substantial amount of weapons and ammo.
