Chinese company to act as service provider for realizing tolls at Bangabandhu Tunnel,  Construction Company for China Communications Ltd. at a cost of approximately Taka 983.82 crore, would serve as the service provider for assuring maintenance and collecting tolls at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel in Chattogram. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), which held its 34th meeting this year virtually today with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair, gave its approval.

Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan gave a virtual press conference following the meeting and stated that a total of eight suggestions were approved during the day’s proceedings. He stated that the CCGP meeting had approved the idea to name the Chinese company as the service provider for the nation’s first tunnel in the port city as a result of a request from the Bangladesh Bridges Authority under the Bridges Division. According to Mahbub, of the proposed amount, approximately 65 percent, or roughly Taka 656.99 crore, will be given to the CCCC in local currency. The remaining 35 percent, or roughly Taka 326.84 crore, will be given to the CCCC in foreign currency.

He claimed that the proposal specifies the amount of the payment that must be made in US dollars. The day’s CCGP meeting, according to the Cabinet Division Additional Secretary, accepted separate bids for the purchase of 1.80 lakh metric tons of fertilizer and an additional 30,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid.

According to him, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will purchase 30,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid from M/s Sun International FZE, UAE (local agent: M/s RK Enterprise, Dhaka) for approximately Taka 215.15 crore, or $674 per ton. This is in response to a proposal from the Ministry of Industries.

According to Mahbub, BCIC would buy 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited in the UAE under the 5th lot for about Taka 189.28 crore, or $794.17 per ton. Additionally, the BCIC would buy 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from the Saudi Arabian company SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company under the 13th lot for about Taka 189.28 crore, with the fertilizer costing $594.17 per ton as opposed to the previous per ton price of $625.83.

The state-run company will also purchase an additional 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from the same Saudi Arabian company, SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, for about Taka 189.28 crore, or $594.17 per ton of fertilizer, down from the previous price of $625.83.

According to Mahbub, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would purchase 50,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from a Canadian company for about Taka 416.54 crore, which is a decrease from the previous price of $821 per ton. In addition to this, the BADC will purchase an additional 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from a Saudi company for about Taka 308.78 crore, costing $725.25 per ton as opposed to the prior rate of $826.50.

In the meantime, the Ideal Electrical Enterprise Ltd Bangladesh has been granted the package number GD-1: Lot 5 under the project for “Upgradation of power distribution system: Mymensingh Zone” with approximately Taka 102.62 crore. This decision was made in response to a proposal from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) under the Power Division.
