Assam can benefit from Bangladesh’s growth: Momen, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Bangladesh’s foreign minister, stated today that Assam, which serves as the gateway to northeast India, may profit from Bangladesh’s remarkable economic progress by fostering greater trade, business, tourism, and intercultural exchange. A delegation from the Assam Legislative Assembly, led by its Speaker Shri Biswajit Daimary, met with him this afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy when he made the comment. On Dr. Momen’s invitation, a 54-person delegation to Bangladesh, including 32 MLAs, will be there on official business from November 19 to November 22.

The Speaker of Assam praised the Prime Minister’s inspirational leadership for Bangladesh’s recent socioeconomic success. He claimed that because of their steadfast support for the Bangali people during the War of Liberation in 1971, the people in the North-East of India hold a unique place in Bangladeshis’ hearts. He mentioned that Assam, the Gateway of Northeast India, can benefit from Bangladesh’s remarkable economic growth by fostering trade, commerce, tourism, and intercultural exchange.
Dr. Momen expressed the wish that their memories of this trip would be treasured in order to strengthen the bonds between Assam and Bangladesh and to foster goodwill that would further advance mutual understanding between the two nations’ populations. He emphasized how crucial it is for legislators to have accurate and current information on crucial matters of bilateral interest so they can accurately represent constituents’ hopes and aspirations on the House floor. The delegation met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while there.

The delegation also met the Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament and the Commerce Minister.The Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly appreciated the Prime Minister for her visionary leadership leading to the impressive socio-economic development of Bangladesh in the recent years. He lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, radicalism and violent extremism which had significantly contributed to peace and prosperity in the entire region.
He thanked the Government of Bangladesh for arranging such an excellent exposure visit programme for them. The Assamese delegation laid emphasis on greater collaboration within sectors like connectivity, trade and people-to-people contact in order to further consolidate economic ties between Bangladesh and North-East India. They expressed optimism that the two countries will explore newer areas of cooperation in addition to the existing areas.
The delegation visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Mausoleum in Tungipara, Gopalganj, both of which are connected by the iconic Padma Bridge. They paid respects to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
