Dynamism into community policing imperative to mitigate violent extremism. Infusing dynamism into the activities of bit and community policing can be the best way of maintaining peace and tranquility everywhere in the society through uprooting violent extremism. Engagement of community people is the precondition towards establishing peace and harmony. So, the police officials, particularly Sub Inspector (SI) and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty in this regard.
High ranking officials of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and development activists came up with the observation while addressing a daylong workshop titled “Strategy selection to prevent violent extremism” here Monday. RMP and the Asia Foundation (TAF) jointly organized the workshop at Grand River View Hotel supported by the TAF’s ‘Police Engagement Approach for Countering Extremism – PEACE’ project.

Around 120 SIs, ASIs and bit and community policing officials from 12 police stations at RMP joined the workshop. RMP Commissioner Anisur Rahman, Additional Commissioner Bijoy Basak and TAF Chief of Party Sadat Sadruddin Sibly addressed the meeting as resource persons disseminating their expertise on the issue.
RMP Additional Deputy Commissioners Golam Ruhul Quddus and Rafiqul Alam and TAF Senior Programme Officer Joynul Abedeen and Programme Officer Safiul Awal also spoke on the occasion. RMP Commissioner Anisur Rahman said the Bangladesh Police has been working relentlessly on the basis of a zero tolerance policy against the violent extremism and terrorism.
He said the present Bangladesh is going ahead rapidly. There is a need to remain alert so that extremism and terrorism can’t be the obstacle towards development. Commissioner Rahman mentioned that the extent of militancy and terrorism
were reduced in the country at present. But, the motivational work on online- based militant recruitment is going on hidden. Now, stiff resistance should be forged against them. That’s why, bit and community policing can play vital
roles in this regard.
Additional Commissioner Bijoy Basak said there is no alternative to communityand bit policing to combat extremism and terrorism. He urged the bit and community policing officers to render their services with sincerity and
honesty. He added that the present police force remained active to uproot extremism and terrorism. Sadat Shibly told the meeting that the PEACE Project is intended to empower law enforcement agencies to carry out counter terrorism efforts that
effectively engage citizens in awareness raising, information sharing and prevention initiatives.
