Depression intensifies into deep depression in Bay: met office

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) announced that the depression over the east-central Bay and adjoining west-central Bay has intensified into a deep depression as of 9 am.”The depression over the east-central Bay and adjoining west-central Bay has moved north-northeastwards, intensified into a deep depression, and was centered at 9 am today. It is likely to intensify further and continue moving northeastwards,” stated the BMD.

Previously, on Friday, the met office advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to keep hoisting distant cautionary signal no-1 due to the approaching weather system.

The latest weather release, valid for 72 hours from 9 am today, predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds in most places across the Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions. Many areas in the Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions are also likely to experience these conditions, with moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in some southern parts of the country.

Elsewhere in the country, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies.

A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across the Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and it is likely to continue. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged, while nighttime temperatures may drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius across the country.
