BD New Delhi mission celebrates Armed Forces Day, On Monday, the Bangladesh Mission in New Delhi celebrated Bangladesh Armed Forces Day to mark the founding anniversary of the forces, which include the army, navy, and air force. On this date in 1971, the Bangladesh Armed Forces were established and launched an all-out assault on the Pakistani occupation forces, which ultimately led to Bangladesh’s independence.

Since the nation’s independence, this momentous day has been celebrated annually as Armed Forces Day. Along with hosting a reception for the dignitaries in Bangabandhu Hall of the Chancery, the High Commission’s offices were decorated with vibrant lights, banners, and festoons to commemorate the occasion. Along with numerous Indian Armed Forces war veterans, diplomats from various nations, and defense advisers and attaches based in Delhi, Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, DG of Military Intelligence, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
On arrival, the chief guest along with Bangladesh High Commissioner designate Mustafizur Rahman and Defence Adviser Abul Kalam Azad laid floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and paid homage to all martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971. The National Anthems of both countries were played. Besides, a video clip containing the contribution of Bangladesh Armed Forces in nation-building activities and for international peace was screened.

In a brief speech on the occasion, the chief guest recalled the contribution of the Indian and Bangladeshi armed forces during the 1971 War of Liberation, saying that they cooperated to liberate Bangladesh by fighting side by side against the occupiers. Additionally, he noted that, as in the past, both nations’ armed forces have collaborated closely in the interest of nation-building and force development. He paid respect to the members of both nations’ armed forces who lost their lives fighting for Bangladesh’s independence.
The newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman recalled the invaluable moral and material support of India during the War of Liberation led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The High Commissioner highlighted the strong bond of friendship between the two friendly countries, which are often portrayed as a role model in neighbourhood relations.
Brig. Gen. Abul Kalam Azad, the defense adviser for the Bangladesh High Commission, emphasized the development of defense cooperation between Bangladesh and India as well as the success of the Bangladesh Armed Forces both domestically and abroad. Later, he cut the founding anniversary cake with the primary guest, the high commissioner, and other important visitors. A dinner was held after the event.
