CTTC arrests one over escape of 2 militants from court, One suspect was detained today by the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit in connection with the kidnapping of two militant death row inmates from the court grounds. Mehedi Hasan Ami, also known as Rafi, 24, was named as the suspect. According to Md Faruque Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP’s media section, the CTTC unit apprehended Mehedi Hasan.

Earlier, chief of CTTC Md Asaduzzaman said that the man who led the group in snatching two death row convicts and members of banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam from Dhaka court premises was identified. “We got the name of the man and some of his associates. But will not disclose it for the sake of investigation,” he said.

Asaduzzaman, also additional commissioner of DMP, said “We have received intelligence information on how the escape of those two militants was planned. Arresting them is our main target at the moment.” In the afternoon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun told a function in Rajshahi that the CTTC has already arrested one accused in connection with the militant snatching. “We recovered the motorcycle used by the militants. We have recovered data and evidences,” he added.
At the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday, two members of the outlawed militant group JMB who had been given the death penalty in the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan were kidnapped from police custody by their cronies. The militants are Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh members Abu Siddiq and Moinul Hasan (JMB). Inspector Julhas Uddin Akand of the DMP’s Prosecution Department later filed a lawsuit on behalf of the incident’s plaintiff. 20 individuals were named in the case, and another 20–21 were made unnamed accusers.
