He said this while paying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a courtesy visit this morning at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in this city. Bangladesh wants to maintain an open and transparent relationship with the World Bank, according to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the negotiations.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the newsmen after the meeting. Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, Sheikh Hasina requested the World Bank (WB) to take measures for stopping it as the entire world has been facing a global crisis stemming from the war. About the climate change issue, she said her government is working on adaptation and mitigation of climate change with its own resources.
The prime minister also put emphasis on strengthening connectivity to further accelerate development. She said her government is developing the country with a small, mid, and long-term plan, adding that they are implementing Delta Plan 2100 to ensure a better and more beautiful life for generations. The WB official said they would continue support to Bangladesh in its development efforts.
The prime minister added that her country’s administration had effectively carried out the MDGs and was now focusing on achieving the SDGs. Martin Raiser has proposed a joint celebration of Bangladesh and the WB’s 50 years of cooperation. Additionally, he gave the prime minister a photo of the Father of the Nation and former WB President Robert Strange McNamara taken at Ganabhaban on January 31, 1972. Among those in attendance were WB Country Director to Bangladesh Abdoulae Seck, PM’s Principal Secretary Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, and PM’s Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin.
