Archaeologist Dr Enamul Haque’s death an irreperable loss: Hasan, Paying rich tribute to the renowned archaeologist, historian, and art expert Professor Dr. Enamul Haque, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the death of Haque is really an irreparable loss of the nation.

Hasan said Dr. Enamul Haque, who was awarded the Ekushey Padak, the  Swadhinata Padak and the Padma Shri award of India in 2020, was good human being. He had discharged his duty as the director general of the National Museum for a long while earlier he also discharged his duty in the Dhaka Museum with utmost sincerity, he added.

The minister told the reporters after placing a wreath on the coffin of Haque in front of the Bangladesh National Museum. Enamul Haque, who was also former director general of the Bangladesh National  Museum died on July 10 at his residence in the city at the age of 85.

He said Haque has not only contributed to the country but also brightened the image of Bangladesh abroad, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary. The minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni also paid rich tribute to Dr Enamul Haque and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. She said Haque was very cordial. He will ever be remembered for his outstanding contribution to different sectors including, archaeology.

Late Haque’s daughter poet Trina Haque, National Museum Managing Board  President, Chairman of the board of directors of the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Dhaka University former vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, National Museum director general Md Kamruzzaman, director Dr. Shihab Shahriar, Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, and Bangiya Shilpakal Charcha (international chapter) director Mahabub Alam, among others, addressed the meeting.

Later, a guard of honor was given to Haque under the auspices of Dhaka district administration. A namaz-e-janaza was held there. After the janaza, the body was taken to  Bogura for burial.
