Project to develop slums ,Around 4,000 people, particularly the slum-dwelling ones, are getting benefits related to communication and sanitationlike urban people as a result of need-based infrastructure improvement in Charghat Pourasabha in the district.
Different kinds of development works, including road, drainage, toilet, dustbin and solar lighting were implemented with interventions of the slum development project.Ekramul Haque, mayor of Charghat Pourasabha, told BSS that they implemented the project costing around Taka 10.90 crore supported by the Financial Institutions Division of the government and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

“We have constructed 22-kilometer roads, 14 toilets, 47 solar lights and dustbins at many of the road crossings for collecting wastes in 14 slum communities,” he added.

Pourasabha Mayor Haque said the improved facilities are contributing a lot towards socio-economic conditions of the beneficiary people together with boosting their level of confidence. Monsur Rahman, a resident of ward number 5, said they had to suffer a lot due to water stagnant on the road caused by rainfall in the previous time. But at present, their problems have been removed by dint of road and drainage
construction. As a whole, their community-level communication has been eased due to the infrastructural development, he added.
