Load shedding schedule: The government has taken several measures including area-wise load-shedding and shutdown of diesel-powered power plants to ease the power crisis caused mainly by rising fuel prices in the international market. Initially there will be one hour power shedding from 20th and production at diesel powered plants will be temporarily stopped from today. State Minister of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Nasrul Hamid said, initially, hourly load shedding will continue for about a week and if it is not enough, the government will extend the period of load shedding.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said, “There will be a shortfall in power generation from about 1,000 MW to 1,500 MW. As a result, the authorities will be forced to periodically load-shedding electricity for one to two hours across the country. Briefing reporters after a coordination meeting on power and energy at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here today, he said that the filling stations in the country will also be closed for one day a week. Tawfiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury said, “This decision is temporary… We will return to full power generation as soon as the global situation improves.”
Regarding the load-shedding schedule, he said, the government has taken this decision to reduce the cost of diesel due to the abnormal rise in prices in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He said that some rich countries like UK and Australia are also doing load shedding to deal with the situation.
Nasrul Hamid said that the total power generation is expected to be 1,500 MW. We will inform you in advance when the power outage will occur and in which area. We are giving top priority to industrial sector. Stating that there will be load shedding for one to two hours in the country in the next one week, the state minister said that the authorities will take the next decision after monitoring the situation. The state minister also said that the government will not buy gas from the international market as the price has increased abnormally.
He said that about 10 percent of diesel is used in the power sector in the country, the rest is used in the transport sector and if the diesel-powered power plants are shut down, the government will be able to save a considerable amount of petrol. Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary Dr Kaykaus while speaking at the event said that in the meeting it was decided to make government and private offices virtual to save electricity. He said, the government is also considering how to reduce government office hours. It was informed in the meeting that the Ministry of Public Administration will coordinate the management of government offices virtually.
According to the government directives, the distribution companies will inform the customers in advance to manage the planned load shedding from Tuesday. The announcement was made by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Tawfiq-e Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister Nasrul Hamid in a separate press conference on Monday. When contacted, DPDC managing director Bikas Dewan, who is in charge of power distribution in a part of Dhaka, told bdnews24.com that they are preparing a list of areas where load shedding may occur on Tuesday. He said that it will be published on the website of DPDC sometime after 7 pm.
